Truly, the real measure of our culture isn’t found in awards or project milestones – it’s found in how we show up for one another on and off the job. This past spring, our team had the opportunity to come together and support one of our own.

On an ordinary Sunday afternoon, life turned upside down for Sonja Antrillo, HR and Office Manager at Legacy Mechanical. Sonja’s 13-year-old son was cooking on the stove when a grease fire quickly caught and climbed up the kitchen cabinets in seconds. Knowing they couldn’t contain the fire, Sonja and her family rushed outside to safety and called 911 while black smoke filled their townhome.

“It was horrifying to know that everything was gone,” says Sonja. “Everybody reassured my son that it wasn’t his fault. Accidents happen you know. It’s just a hard lesson learned. You don’t walk away from the stove.”

Sonja has been an essential part of the Legacy Mechanical team for seven years, caring for our employees, field crews, and partners. So when word of the fire reached the office, the Legacy Mechanical team acted quickly to care for Sonja.

Led by Kelsey Alstrup, Legacy Mechanical organized a relief fund, matched employee donations dollar-for-dollar, and rallied together to donate beds, furniture, and kitchenware to help furnish a new home for Sonja and her family.

“It’s definitely one big family here, but this was just above and beyond,” Sonja says. “And once I was able to get back to work, it was just an amazing flow of support from everybody. People from years ago that I onboarded in the field reached out… it just made me believe in humanity again. We really live our core values here—the commitment to each other, the quality of life that the company helps provide, and the integrity to do what’s right.”
